Keeping the engine lubricated under the strain of high-g turns and required that it be fed its oil by a dry-sump oil system, the first of its kind on a street-legal Mustang.

Weight and Aerodynamics

Maximizing performance at the highest level doesn’t just require a mighty motor. It also means keeping weight down and properly distributed. Ford pulled high-strength, low-weight materials from every source they could find, including decommissioned F-22 Raptor fighter jets, to make the Mustang GTD. The driveshaft is made of carbon fiber. The exhaust system is made of titanium. Even the paddle shifters and serial plate are made from titanium.

Aerodynamics also plays a huge role in maintaining performance. At the kind of track speeds the Mustang GTD can achieve, a rear-wheel drive car’s nose tends to want to rise. Ford carefully tuned the aerodynamics using advanced concepts like vented front fenders to cool the standard Brembo brakes and reduce both lift and drag. They also included a massive carbon-fiber spoiler to help keep the nose firmly planted even at top speed.

A Commanding Cockpit

Sit behind the wheel of the Mustang GTD and you’ll find an expanse of screens designed for maximum information flow. A 12.4-inch digital cluster and 13.2-inch center infotainment screen are customizable and powered by the Unreal Engine for next-level graphics.
